Austrian Climate and Energy Fund
Short description

The Austrian Climate and Energy Fund (Klima- und Energiefonds) is a federal funding body established to drive Austria's transition to climate neutrality by 2040. Funded directly by the federal government, it has distributed over €4.1 billion since its founding in 2007, supporting around 500,000 projects across more than 60 programmes. Its work spans energy, mobility, urban development, research, and society, targeting businesses, municipalities, private individuals, and research institutions alike. A key principle of the fund is that every euro of public funding leverages roughly six times the amount in total investment — making it a highly efficient multiplier for climate action.

Unlock-hypothesis

Lack of funding By offering structured, multi-target funding programmes — tailored to the different needs of municipalities, companies, and citizens — it removes one of the most common barriers to action.
