Outreach Participation
Short description

Outreach participation is an approach that actively reaches out to people in their own environments (e.g. neighborhoods, homes, or public spaces) instead of expecting them to join formal participation processes. It focuses especially on including individuals or groups who are usually underrepresented or hard to reach, by lowering barriers and engaging them directly in their everyday contexts.

Unlock-hypothesis

Helps communicate the benefits of resident participation in decision-making processes.

Outreach participation makes the value of participation more visible and inclusive by involving people who would otherwise not take part. It ensures that a broader range of perspectives is heard, leading to more representative and effective decisions. By directly engaging residents—especially “silent” or less active groups—it demonstrates in practice that participation leads to better, more needs-based outcomes and strengthens trust in decision-making processes.
