Austrian Climate and Energy Fund
The Austrian Climate and Energy Fund (Klima- und Energiefonds) is a federal funding body established to drive Austria's transition to climate neutrality by 2040. Funded directly by the federal government, it has distributed over €4.1 billion since its founding in 2007, supporting around 500,000 projects across more than 60 programmes. Its work spans energy, mobility, urban development, research, and society, targeting businesses, municipalities, private individuals, and research institutions alike. A key principle of the fund is that every euro of public funding leverages roughly six times the amount in total investment — making it a highly efficient multiplier for climate action.
Baumbudget Graz / Tree Budget Graz
Baumbudget Graz is an innovative financing model introduced by the City of Graz to systematically fund the planting and maintenance of urban trees. It draws from three sources: compensation fees collected under the city's tree protection ordinance (which requires replanting or financial compensation when trees are removed), voluntary tree sponsorships open to individuals and companies, and project-specific budget approvals by the city council. Together, these streams create a dedicated financial pool that ensures greening efforts are not dependent on a single, uncertain budget line.
Cargo Bike Sharing
In Vienna, cargo bikes can be borrowed for free from private individuals in almost every district.
